The FOGCycle

Fats, Oils & Grease Circular Exchange

FOGCycle is a two-sided program: we sell certified Grease Recovery Units (GRUs) that protect drainage systems from FOG and food particles, and we buy back all the recovered FOG — converting it into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), biodiesel and biofeedstock. FOGCycle protects infrastructure, eliminates a major health hazard, and turns every grease trap into a revenue-generating asset.

FOGCycle is The Swarm Initiative’s Fats, Oils & Grease (FOG) recovery and management programme. It operates as a two-sided circular system:

01

SELL

We sell certified Grease Recovery Units (GRUs) to food businesses, industrial operators and domestic properties. GRUs intercept FOG and food particles before they enter drainage systems — preventing blocked drains, sewer overflows, flooding and water pollution.

02

BUY BACK

We buy back all the FOG recovered by the installed GRUs. Every litre collected is tracked, certified and converted into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), biodiesel and certified biofeedstock — generating clean energy and cash income for every vendor.

Every FOGCycle vendor is supported by a certified ABYT Network trader who supplies and installs the right GRU, manages regular servicing and FOG collection, ensures full digital traceability, and pays cash on every collection.

How FOGCycle Works

01

SELL — Grease Recovery Units

ABYT Network traders supply and install the right Grease Recovery Unit (GRU) for each vendor — from compact under-sink passive traps for homes and small cafés, to hydromechanical interceptors, automatic skimmer units and large in-ground interceptor tanks for commercial and industrial operations. GRUs intercept FOG and food particles before they enter the drainage system, protecting pipes, sewers, waterways and the wider environment.

02

TRACK — Digital Traceability

Every GRU installation and every FOG collection is digitally tracked from source to conversion. Blockchain-verified records ensure full ISCC PLUS supply chain compliance — every litre of recovered FOG is certified, traceable and ready for global biofuel markets.

03

BUY
BACK

FOGCycle buys back all recovered FOG directly from vendors. ABYT Network traders manage regular collection schedules, service the GRUs, and pay cash on every collection. Vendors earn income from waste they previously paid to dispose of.

04

TRANSFORM — Clean Energy

All collected FOG is converted into biodiesel and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) — generating clean energy and reducing East Africa’s fossil fuel dependency. 3kg CO₂ saved per 1kg of FOG recovered and converted.

Who FOGCycle Serves

🏠 Domestic Properties & Residential Communities

FOGCycle is not just for businesses. Every household that cooks with oil, every apartment block with a kitchen, every estate with communal cooking facilities — all generate FOG every day. We collect it, pay you cash for it, and keep it out of your drains, out of waterways, and out of the food chain.

  • Individual households — apartments, estates and standalone homes
  • Gated communities and residential estates — bulk collection points
  • Student hostels and university halls of residence
  • Community kitchens and social housing blocks
  • Religious institutions — churches, mosques, temples with kitchen facilities

Domestic FOG is one of the most significant and untapped waste streams in East Africa. Most households pour cooking oil and fats down the drain — causing blocked pipes, flooding, sewer overflows and water pollution. In many areas this material is collected illegally and recycled into counterfeit cooking oil sold back to the same communities.

FOGCycle gives every home a certified, cash-paying alternative — and contributes collected domestic FOG to the same certified biofeedstock supply chain that supplies global SAF and biodiesel markets.

🏭 Commercial, Industrial & Institutional Sources

  • Hotels, restaurants and cafés (HORECA) — cooking oil and kitchen grease
  • Food processors and manufacturers — processing fats and oils
  • Industrial facilities — lubricating oils, process greases and fats
  • Caterers and event kitchens — bulk cooking grease
  • Schools, hospitals, universities and government facilities — institutional kitchen FOG
  • Supermarkets, food courts and fast-food chains — high-volume frying oils
  • Drain interceptors and grease traps — accumulated FOG from commercial premises
  • Automotive and engineering workshops — lubricant and oil waste (non-food FOG streams)

Grease Recovery Units — Sold by ABYT Traders

FOGCycle sells certified Grease Recovery Units (GRUs) for every scale of operation. GRUs intercept FOG and food particles at source — before they enter drainage systems and cause blocked drains, sewer overflows and water pollution. Once installed, FOGCycle buys back all recovered FOG on a regular collection schedule. ABYT Network traders earn 20% commission on every GRU sold and 10% on every FOG collection.

Why GRUs Are Essential

  • FOG is the #1 cause of blocked drains and sewer overflows in East African cities
  • Food particles entering drainage systems cause pipe corrosion, flooding and environmental damage
  • GRUs intercept FOG and solids before they cause damage — protecting infrastructure and the environment
  • Recovered FOG becomes certified biofeedstock — turning a liability into a revenue stream

Impact

  • 3kg CO₂ saved per 1kg of FOG recovered and recycled
  • Zero FOG re-entering the food chain or waterways — eliminating a leading cause of drain blockages and foodborne disease
  • All recovered FOG streams → biodiesel and SAF — reducing East Africa’s fossil fuel dependency
  • KES 2B+ circular economy value unlocked
  • Thousands of green jobs for ABYT traders aged 18–36
