The SWARM Initiative

The SWARM Initiative is a mission-driven organization dedicated to advancing sustainable waste and residue management across Africa. We exist to transform how communities and businesses handle organic and recyclable waste, turning these challenges into opportunities for income generation, environmental restoration, and circular innovation.

Through practical, tech-enabled programs, we support the responsible disposal and reuse of food waste, used cooking oil, and recyclables. Our goal is to make sustainability accessible, inclusive, and rewarding for everyone.

Our three core programs, Compo-Coin, SAFI (Sustainable African Frying Initiative), and TAKA-EX, empower households, food vendors, and waste entrepreneurs to take meaningful action. From compost bin leasing and oil recovery to waste-for-cash recycling, we are building systems that reward impact and foster local change.

SWARM stands for Sustainable Waste Action for Resource Mobilization. Our work is rooted in the belief that communities have the power to drive Africa’s green transformation through innovation, collaboration, and responsible resource management.
